Dr. Soichiro Kondo will deliver an educational lecture entitled "Disease Treatment, Cosmetic Surgery, and Anti-Aging, Cosmetic, and Preventive Medicine: How to Use Yourself as a Doctor" at the 19th Annual Japanese Society of Cosmetic Neurosurgery (Chairman: Professor Yasushi Takagi, Department of Neurosurgery, University of Tokushima) to be held at Awagin Hall (Tokushima Prefecture Local Culture Hall) on April 11, 2026.

Dr. Soichiro Kondo delivered a special lecture on the theme of "Message from a Neurosurgeon turned Cosmetic Surgeon: Enrich People's Smiles and Lives with Quality Medical Care" at the 17th Japanese Society of Cosmetic Neurosurgery held in 2024. At the time, he attracted attention as a physician who brought his neurosurgical skills and experience to the field of cosmetic medicine, attracting more than 100 medical professionals, including neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, and medical staff. Following the success of this event, he will be making a second appearance at this year's event.

About the 19th Annual Japanese Society for Orthopedic Neurosurgery

The theme of the conference is "Creation and Imitation. Dr. Soichiro Kondo will give a lecture titled "Disease treatment, cosmetic surgery, and anti-aging, cosmetic and preventive medicine: How to make the most of yourself as a physician. Dr. Kondo will discuss his quest for medical care that transcends boundaries and his journey as a physician for the benefit of his patients, from anti-aging and cosmetic medicine to address appearance problems caused by birth and aging, to preventive medicine that is also linked to health consciousness and lifestyle habits.

In this lecture, Dr. Kondo asks how he should apply himself as a physician, looking at the patient's life as a whole, without being bound only by the boundaries of insurance or medical specialties, even in today's world where medical care is highly fragmented and specialization is strongly demanded. While the previous lecture was about how the knowledge and skills he has cultivated as a neurosurgeon are utilized in cosmetic medicine, this time he goes one step further and addresses physicians and healthcare professionals with a more essential view of medicine that does not separate disease treatment, cosmetics, and prevention.

We live in an era in which medical care is fragmented and specialization is strongly demanded. Specialization is essential for providing high quality and safe medical care. Specialty is a weapon of medicine. However, physicians, and the world at large, can become too focused and bound by specialization, narrowing their vision and losing sight of the essential nature of medical care for patients. What connects brain surgery and cosmetic surgery, two seemingly opposite fields? It is nothing other than "the quest for the human being itself. Rather than dividing a patient by organs or parts of the body, we examine the whole person's life. There are no boundaries between medical departments. Curing diseases is, of course, an important mission of a physician, but when you look at a patient's life, mind, and relationship with society, there are things that a physician can do that cannot be confined to a single field. Based on my experience as a neurosurgeon, I have also dealt with cosmetic medicine, anti-aging, and preventive medicine, but the underlying principle has always been "medicine for people. In this lecture, I would like to talk about how I should apply myself as a physician through this journey.

Doctor of Medicine (Kyoto University Graduate School)

Member of the Japanese Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (JSAS), Member of the Japanese Society of Anti-Aging Medicine, Specialist and Councilor of the Japanese Neurosurgical Society

After graduating from Kyoto University, he specialized in the surgical treatment of subarachnoid hemorrhage and stroke for 20 years as a neurosurgeon until the age of 44. Later, he became a cosmetic surgeon with a lifelong mission to cure the physical and facial problems of patients who are not sick, utilizing the knowledge, skills, and experience he gained as a neurosurgeon. Currently, he is the chairman of a medical corporation and the director of a cosmetic surgery clinic, and has made numerous appearances on TV and in magazines. He is also active as a professional fisherman.

■The last time he appeared on stage

Dr. Soichiro Kondo also delivered a special lecture at the 17th Annual Japanese Society for Orthopedic Neurosurgery held in 2024. After his lecture, a photo was taken of Dr. Kondo and the chairperson, Professor Michihiro Kono (then Chief Professor, Department of Neurosurgery, Tokyo Medical University), side by side, and more than 100 medical professionals gathered that day.
